Hot Car Safety

In the news two children have died from being trapped in a hot car recently. That makes 15 children this year. Most cases are by accident but as parents this is something to think about during the hot summer months ahead. Our cars act as ovens and can heat up 20 degrees in 10 minutes. That might not sound like a lot but in Texas or many states it can be deadly. Cars can reach 110 degrees when the outside temperatures are only in the 60's! That is hot! Most of the children left in cars die of heat stroke and this isn't what any parent wants. So how can you prevent this from happening? A few inventions and tricks below can help you remember your child.

Top Auto Apps

Road trip? There is an app for that! With Toyota you can have Entune and many other apps to make your drive easy. From road-trips to gas savings there are apps out there for all your automotive needs. Take a look at our top picks:

Entune: With the Entune app for Toyota you have access to iHeartRadio and Pandora to listen to music, Bing for searching, MovieTickets.com to purchase movie tickets on the go, and OpenTable to make dinner reservations all from the comfort of your vehicle!

Waze: We all know Houston traffic can be the worst but the with Waze you can cut time off your daily commute. Waze is the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. It also helps you find the cheapest gas stations in your area all through community updates!

Roadtrippers: If you are just along for an adventure this app will share fun things to do along your route. With turn by turn navigation this app not only lets you map your route but offers attractions, lodging, and more along the way. It syncs your itinerary and helps make your trip hassle free.

Fuelcaster: One of the cool new apps to debut during SXSW was Fuelcaster. This app would go by zip code or GPS to tell you the best prices on gas in your area. It would also predict if prices were going to drop or get higher. This is a great summertime app to use because gas prices fluctuate during heavy travel times. This app could save you some $$.

FuelMyRoute.com: FuelMyRoute.com asks for your starting and ending location and will show the best gas prices along your route. This is great for road-trips or even for your daily commute. Why not save a little money on your way home from work?

New Owner Event June

Last night we hosted our June New Owner Clinic. It's always a fun event where we can help our guests understand their new vehicles. During the event we serve dinner, answer any questions, and go through demos of our different departments. From service, parts, and quick lube our Toyota trained technicians were on hand to answer any questions. One of the most informative parts of the night was the service light portion where our technicians went over what each of the car lights means and what you should do when your car light comes on.

Lifetime Fitness Poolapalooza

Lifetime fitness invited us to display some Toyota vehicles during their Poolapalooza this weekend. The gym was packed with families enjoying a cool pool escape. We brought out our Toyota Tundra truck and set up a booth to talk about the perks of owning and servicing a Toyota at Fred Haas Toyota Country. Toyota is the official vehicle partner of Lifetime Fitness supporting a healthy lifestyle and  challenging you to Go Places!
We had a great time showcasing our top Tundra model and talking with guests. We even had one guest share his story of purchasing from us several years ago. He said he drove into Fred Haas Toyota Country and worked with Ken Truong asking only one question: "Can I fit 3 car seats in the back of a Prius? Because if I can I will sign the papers right now." He said after testing his 3 car seats in the Prius he purchased on the spot and has loved it ever since.
Love to hear from happy guests who are still loving Toyota! Below are a few pictures from this weekend.

Flood Safety

Houston has been hit hard with rain, tornado warnings, and now flooding. The roads have been crazy this week and will continue into the weekend with rough weather. Bayou city is known for flooding and if you are a commuter this can be even more dangerous trying to get to and from work. Driving through a flooded street can cause damage to your car or worse put you in danger! Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind while on the road:

  • Flash floods happen fast and sometimes without warning
  • 6 inches of water is all it takes to reach the bottom of most cars which can cause you to stall out
  • At shallow depths the road is still unpredictable
  • Take caution at bridges, overpasses, and underpasses
  • Drive in the middle where water is most shallow
  • If your vehicle stalls out leave it and get to a safe place
  • If a road is blocked with barricades don't try to drive through
  • If you can't safely drive through the water turn around and find another route
